New Owners Name Struggling North Carolina Ski Resort After Themselves

Wolf Ridge Ski Resort in Madison County, North Carolina has struggled in recent seasons. Warm weather, subpar snowmaking, and a poor infrastructure were to blame.

Local skiers were elated on March 4th, 2023 when Wolf Ridge's social media accounts published a press release announcing that Deborah and David Hatley from Johnson City, TN had purchased the resort.

Months later, and the Hatleys have released a video detailing their significant investments in snowmaking and infrastructure. They've also announced a new name for the resort- Hatley Pointe Boutqiue Mountain Resort. See the video below:

Hatley Pointe Boutique Mountain Resort: "Gain an exclusive glimpse into the remarkable enhancements underway at Hatley Pointe Mountain Resort. Surrounded by the renowned Blue Ridge Mountains, this exquisite resort provides an all-season haven among nature's splendor. A mere half-hour's drive from Asheville, NC, Hatley Pointe stands tall at an elevation of 4,700 feet, boasting a vast 50-acre expanse of skiable terrain.

Our resort surpasses others in the region with our unparalleled hospitality, delicious cuisine, and mountain panoramas. Prepare to create memories that will linger long after you leave, ensuring that Hatley Pointe is more than just a destination—it's an unforgettable journey into the heart of mountain luxury."

Here's a quick summary of the investments being made this offseason:

  • Lodge renovation

  • Snowmaking upgrade

Nearly every one of Wolf Ridge/Hatley Pointe's social media posts are littered with comments from skiers and snowboarding demanding better snowmaking.

The Hatleys have a huge undertaking on their hands, but it appears (at least from an outsider's perspective) that they're investing in the two aspects of the resort that need the most attention.

With that said, it's clear that the Hatleys are looking to change the look and feel of the resort. Their marketing material is professional, clean, and polished and uses words like 'boutique', 'luxury', and 'exclusive' frequently.

It's a bold move to name a ski resort after yourself, but one could argue that purchasing a struggling ski resort in the southeast is bold in and of itself.

Regardless, Hatley Pointe's followers are expressing their excitement for the new owners, their investments, and the future of the ski resort on a recent Instagram post:

"Whoo hoo! We’re so excited!"

"We can’t wait to experience these upgrades!"

"Amazing! So excited for the future!"

"Sounds like you guys are headed in the right direction. Get the snow pumping and your slopes open (hard enough in itself in NC) and I think you guys will have great success! Wishing you all the success, will have to give you a try in the future."
