Owners hope to tee up Blue Lagoon mini-golf course in Rochester this fall

May 7—ROCHESTER — Missy Emerich and her family hope to make a splash and bring "a little bit of fun" to Rochester this fall with their Blue Lagoon Mini Golf course.

The 18-hole outdoor course with a "lagoon" and fountains and a 600-square-foot clubhouse is cleared to be built at 6255 34th Ave. NW near the Roca Climbing center and Mercy Hill Church.

Blue Lagoon will also feature a cornhole bean bag area and a patio. The clubhouse will sell drinks and ice cream.

"We've raised our family here and we know how important it is to find fun activities to do with kids and family and we kind of felt Rochester was lacking a little bit in that department," said Emerich on why they decided to open a seasonal mini-golf course. "Our kids are teenagers now, so the timing is good for us. We've been able to see what kind of things they would have loved to do as a family as they were growing up."

They are working with Kramer Contracting, CRW Architecture + Design Group and Widseth on the project.

Rochester has only one nine-hole mini-golf course open during the warm months at Skyline Raceway at 2248 40th St, SW, on the other side of the city.

While they had hoped to tee up Blue Lagoon yet this summer, delays pushed their plans back a bit. They expect to be up and running in early September.

"We think it's still coming together where that's still very doable that we can maybe operate for six weeks," she said. "That certainly wasn't our ideal timeline. Though we feel like it's all that bad, because we'll have six weeks of learning time. ... Then we'll be really ready to fire on all cylinders by the time we hit the next full season."

Depending on weather, they hope to have the Blue Lagoon open from mid-May to mid-October.
