Owners of Beloved 'Boston Marathon' Dog Grieve After He Passes From Cancer

He will be so missed by everyone.

Residents, fans and supporters line the streets of Boston every year to cheer on the marathon runners. But one adorable and furry fan stood out from the rest. Since 2015, this Golden Retriever named Spencer would offer his support to all the runners, giving them a much-needed boost to keep going.

But unfortunately, this very good boy has crossed over the rainbow bridge after his battle with cancer. A local Boston news station, WCVB Channel 5, caught up with Spencer's grieving owners. We hope they know that we're all grieving alongside them.

Spencer is absolutely one of the most special doggos there ever was. The fact that he'd go out, cheering on all those marathon runners year after year is beyond amazing. We just know the entire community and world will always remember him.

The 13-year-old Golden Retriever had a tough battle with cancer. And despite health concerns during the 2021 and 2022 races, he still came out to cheer on the runners, according to the report. He was even named the official dog of the 126th Boston Marathon by the Boston Athletic Association. Unfortunately, Spencer's cancer returned and his parents realized he would not be making it to the 127th race.

Before his passing, the BAA also gifted Spencer with a 2022 unicorn medal and the Fairmont Copley Plaza named him as an honorary canine ambassador. Even though Spencer has crossed over the rainbow bridge, and probably running his own marathon in doggy heaven, his legacy will always live on here.
