Have you ever wondered how to make fortune cookies? In this episode of ITK: Kitchen Hacks, we show you how to impress your friends and family with homemade fortune cookies that are so easy to make. Here’s how to create homemade fortune cookies in three easy steps.

Fortune Cookie Hack Step 1: Create the fortunes

First, write down some fun fortunes to put inside your homemade fortune cookies. If you’re feeling stuck, try out some of our favorites: “Your future is sweet,” “Fortune favors the bold,” or “Today will be a great day!” Then, cut the fortunes into small strips.

Fortune Cookie Hack Step 2: Make the cookie batter

To make your fortune cookies, start by beating two egg whites in a bowl, then add 3 tablespoons of canola oil, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1/2 teaspoon of almond extract and whisk together.

Set this aside and combine the dry ingredients into a separate bowl: 1/2 cup of flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoons of cornstarch and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Mix the dry ingredients, then slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry and whisk to combine.

Fortune Cookie Hack Step 3: Form the cookies

Spoon the batter onto a Silpat cookie template, then decorate with sprinkles and hearts. Bake at 375 degrees for eight minutes, then remove the tray from the oven and use a spatula to flip each cookie over.

Add a fortune to the bottom of each cookie, then gently fold the cookie closed and press to seal the edges. Use the rim of a mug to gently shape it into a fortune cookie.
