Owl Caught on Video Trying to Break Into Home to Snatch Pet Parrot

The bird's owner was just stunned.

What was supposed to be a fun-filled St. Patrick's Day turned out to be quite unlucky and scary for this family in Merrimack, New Hampshire. They were all celebrating the holiday when Cynthia Auger heard a very loud bang against the house. Upon investigation, she discovered an owl outside the window.

One might think seeing an owl is so cool, but this situation was different. The owl was staring so intensely at the family's pet parrot named Buddy. Take a look at the full news report from WMUR 9. It might shock you.

Wow! We would've been terrified if this happened to us or our pets. The owl was looking at Buddy like the parrot was going to be his next meal. After a few attempts to break in and get Buddy, the owl flew away. Or so they thought.

The owl returned the very next day, staring Buddy down. Even Buddy was getting scared, according to Auger, Buddy's owner. She said he was squawking, screeching, and flapping around. Poor Buddy! The craziest part is that Auger said she's never seen an owl in the neighborhood prior to this situation.

The New Hampshire news station talked with Maria Colby, owner of the nonprofit Wings Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Colby believes the culprit in this situation is a barred owl. These owls typically go after smaller birds, but it's not their favorite. She advises people to move their pet birds away from windows so an owl doesn't spot them or pull down the shades. As the news report states, this situation was no hoot but at least Buddy the parrot is safe. That's all that matters to us!
