Announced today by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), there is an active nationwide recall on about 930,000 Insignia pressure cookers. This is due to a burn hazard.

“The pressure cooker has incorrect volume markings on the inner pot,” the CPSC recall announcement explained. “This can cause consumers to overfill the pot and hot food and liquids to be ejected when the pressure cooker is vented using the quick release method or opened while its contents are pressurized.” This malfunction can result in injury to the consumer.

The specific pressure cookers affected are the Insignia Multi-Function Pressure Cookers with model numbers NS-MC60SS8, NS-MC60SS9 or NS-MC80SS9. Inner cooker pots sold as replacements with model numbers NS-MCRP6NS9 and NS-MCRP6SS9 are also being recalled.

These recalled pressure cookers were sold at Best Buy locations nationwide as well as on Best Buy’s website and Amazon from October 2017 through June 2023. Best Buy had received 31 reports where this dangerous malfunction took place, causing 17 reports of injuries as severe as second-degree burns.

Consumers that have this recalled product should stop using it immediately. Contact Best Buy for a free replacement of the inner pot and floating lock valve on your pressure cooker to resolve the issue safely.
