Nestlé USA is actively recalling approximately 440,500 Starbucks-branded gift sets, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). This is due to a burn and laceration hazard.

This recall affects Starbucks 11-ounce and 16-ounce metallic-designed ceramic mugs after 12 incidents were reported by consumers where after being microwaved or filled with very hot liquid, the mug overheated or broke. Of these complaints, 10 reported injuries including severe burns, blisters and cuts. One of these instances required medical attention.

The defective mugs were sold in the following 2023 holiday gift sets: Starbucks Holiday Gift Set with 2 Mugs, Starbucks Classic Hot Cocoa and Mug, Starbucks Peppermint and Classic Hot Cocoas and Mug and Starbucks Holiday Blend Coffee and Mug.

These gift sets were sold online and in stores from November 2023 through January 2024 at Target, Walmart and through Nexcom nationwide. If you have one of the faulty mugs on hand, stop using it immediately. Return it to its place of purchase or contact Nestlé USA for a full refund.

To receive a refund through Nestlé, visit their consumer contact page and scroll down to “Leave Us a Message,” click on “Complaint,” select “Recall” from the drop down menu, attach a photo of your mug or the gift set identifier code, complete the form and send. You do not need proof of receipt to receive a refund in this recall.

For more information regarding this recall, contact Nestlé USA at 800-681-1676 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
