Random thought of the day: how is it that my attempts to go viral on TikTok with thought-provoking and important compilations are far and few between successful (read: I give myself credit when hitting 20 likes on a holiday post...), yet something as simple as coining the next big makeup trend a caffeinated drink can conjure up millions of views? Charli D'Amelio, any tips? First came latte makeup with Hailey Bieber showing us how it's done and now the espresso makeup trend is here to pep up our beauty routine.

Alas, personal endeavours aside, the latter of the two (both equally important) social media video themes is one that I'm sure we can all get behind. #LattéMakeup and its newest prodigy, #EspressoMakeup have totalled over 170 million views on the clock app, with creators including Danielle Marcan, Steph Hui and Meredith Duxbury all jumping on the trend.

But before we get into the nitty-gritty details, watch the three recreate said smoky look, below:

Sidenote: Peep the million + view counts... I told ya, viral!

Spilling the tea coffee on the milkier of the two looks, CHANEL Makeup Artist, Anna Payne summarises latté [makeup] art as "an effortless summer look that’s easy to create". Sounds simple, right?

Well, expanding on how to go about recreating the look, Anna recommends which exact products to reach for. "To achieve beautiful dewy skin, it works best if you concentrate on skincare and keeping the foundation light.

"CHANEL Water-Fresh Tint is the perfect product as it hydrates the skin whilst evening out the skin's tone. Latté makeup is suitable for all skin tones but if you have a darker complexion, remember to use a darker shade. Latte makeup focuses on bronzers with yellow and olive undertones avoiding oranges tones. The CHANEL Bronzing Cream is perfect for this look and can also be used on the eyes."

Now, with our face and eye base down, celebrity makeup artist, Sarah Amelia Fogg shares her three top tips to create a flawless dramatic espresso eye.

"Following the minimal latté makeup trend, we're quickly seeing the espresso rendition gain popularity," Sarah explains. "Rather than keeping it light and airy, the espresso eye adds depth, dimension and a touch of allure to your makeup look, ideal for an evening affair."

With the main focus being the intensity of the eyes, Sarah recommends using deep, rich brown powder eyeshadow to add said depth and dimension. "By applying darker colours to the crease and outer corners, the eyes appear more defined and contoured, creating a captivating gaze."

We recommend priming the eyes with Sarah's very own FaceFixers Eyelifting In A Tube to create a perfect canvas prior to shadow application.

Once the area is prepped, Sarah suggests "sweeping a matte beige or soft taupe shade across the eyelids.

"Then, go in and define the crease with a rich brown eyeshadow, blending it outward for a lifted effect. You can intensify the look by smudging the rich brown shade along the lower lash line and finalise the eyes by opting for a winged eyeliner, creating a sophisticated and versatile look."

Though, if blending shadows isn't your forté, a great hack to cheat the system is using cream eyeshadow sticks. Scribble, quite literally, onto the lid and blend with a fluffy blush for the same grunge effect. Shop a few of our faves below:

OK, so, now that we've nailed the how-to, Imma need me a cup of coffee to go – because you know it's a good day when your beveragino matches your makeup lewk.
