Over 130,000 Pounds Of Ground Beef Products Were Recalled For Foreign Matter Contamination
It's not a good week for ground beef. Following a Salmonella outbreak that's affected six states, more than 130,000 pounds of ground beef are being recalled for foreign matter contamination.
The recall is on Rastelli Bros., Inc. products, a business that works out of Swedesboro, New Jersey. The fear is that the raw ground beef products have been contaminated with extraneous materials, most likely plastic, according to a United States Department of Agriculture release. Items included in this recall have been distributed to stores in Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, and Maryland.
So far, 130,464 pounds of the beef have been recalled, but no one has reported any adverse health effects linked to the product. The beef items in question were produced between October 3, 2019 and October 15, 2019.
This recall is classified as a Class II by the USDA, which means that although it is a health hazard situation, there is a low probability of negative health effects. Still, if you happen to have any of these beef products in your fridge or freezer, you should not consume them. You can either throw the products away or return them to where you purchased them.

6-oz vacuum sealed packages containing “NATURE'S RANCHER 100% GRASS FED ORGANIC GROUND BEEF 85% LEAN, 15% FAT” with case code 9276, 9283, 9287, or 9288 and use or freeze by dates of 10/24/19, 10/31/19, 11/04/19, 11/07/19, and 11/11/19.
16-oz vacuum sealed packages containing “NATURE'S RANCHER 100% GRASS FED ORGANIC GROUND BEEF 93% LEAN, 7% FAT” with case code 9276, 9283, 9287, or 9288 and use or freeze by dates of 10/24/19, 10/31/19, 11/04/19, 11/07/19, and 11/11/19.
