Over 11,000 Pounds of Breakfast Sausage Recalled Due to Contamination

Double-check your breakfast sausage! R. L. Zeigler Co. just announced a recall of over 11,600 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken and pork sausages that might contain pieces of metal. This new recall comes just a few weeks after nearly 29,000 pounds of Jimmy Dean sausages were recalled for a similar problem.

Here are the two products you should be checking your freezer for:

  • 24-oz. plastic packages containing about 9 links of “Zeigler A Tradition of Great Taste Red Hots” with a “use by” date of January 24, 2019

  • 24-oz. plastic packages containing about 9 links of “Extra Hot Zeigler A Tradition of Great Taste Red Hots” with a “use by” date of January 24, 2019

You can also check for the establishment number “EST. P-9156S” inside the USDA mark of inspection. No specific stores where the recalled sausages were sold have been named yet, but the products were shipped to retailers nationwide.

Luckily, no illnesses or injury from the contaminated sausages have been reported yet. However, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service is still urging consumers to throw out or return any of the recalled sausages they have in their freezers.
