Netflix’s live-action One Piece adaptation has been massively popular, having been viewed 18.5 million times in its first few days on the service. With over 140 million hours watched by viewers across the globe, there are undoubtedly thousands of people out there begging for more One Piece. Sure, you could watch the anime on Crunchyroll, but why not go to the source and read the manga?

Thankfully, it’s now easier than ever to start reading the One Piece manga, thanks to a new promotion from Shonen Jump. The online manga service – one of many ways to read comics and manga online – has added over 100 chapters of the world's best-selling manga for free.

Shonen Jump typically only makes the three most recent chapters of One Piece free for non-subscribers, while those who want to go back and read earlier issues have to pay a subscription fee. It’s not particularly expensive, at $2.99 a month for over 15,000 chapters of some of the most popular manga on earth, but free is always better anyway.

The first 108 chapters of One Piece are available for free, which covers the first eight or so arcs of the manga. For those who watched the Netflix series, all of the story told there is included in here, as well as a few extra storylines following that, some of which are likely to make an appearance in a season 2, should it ever happen.

An email from Shonen Jump to those on its mailing list says that these free chapters will be available “for a limited time,” but doesn’t specify for how long they’ll remain up. Either way, reading is entirely free, and doesn’t require you to sign up for an account — simply visit the One Piece page on Viz Media and scroll down to the bottom to start reading.

Once you’ve finished with the first 108 chapters, you’ll have to subscribe if you want to read the other… 983 chapters. Or watch all 1071 episodes of One Piece on Crunchyroll. Yeah, it’s a lot. One Piece has been running for almost 25 years, so anyone just getting in now is definitely playing catch up. It is one of the best ongoing manga on the Shonen Jump app though, so it’s worth buying in.
