War has once again found Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) with the advent of the American Revolution when Season 7 of Outlander premieres on STARZ on June 16, and the Fraser clan is finally forced to publicly take sides.

In the trailer for the new season, Claire, who had worked diligently with Jamie to try to prevent the Battle of Culloden, (Caitona Balfe) admits, “I had hoped Jamie would stay away from it, but maybe he’s supposed to be there. Maybe he always was.”

And Jamie himself is none too happy with being pulled into the conflict, especially when he discovers from Lord John (David Berry) that his illegitimate son William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart) has bought a commission in the British Army.

He tells Claire, “I made a promise to myself, I would never face my son.”

The war hasn’t yet come to Fraser’s Ridge, and so they go to meet it. And as they leave, Claire asks Jamie, “We will make it back here one day, won’t we?”

Young Ian (John Bell) is also ready to enlist. He says, “I love this land. I want to fight for it.”

The presence of a singular black crow in the trailer doesn’t bode well for what’s to come in the eight episodes that will air this summer. It appears to be an omen of bad things to come.

And we end with Claire telling Jamie, “Come back to me. You always do.”

But not before he tells her, “I am not brave enough to live without you anymore.”

He also gifts her with a gemstone that would ease her way through the stones should she need to return to the future. He says, “I’ve been saving it. Should I be killed, you could go back.”

But their mission is complicated by the beginning of a geopolitical firestorm: The American Revolution has arrived.

“In the seventh season of Outlander, Jamie, Claire, and their family are caught in the violent birth pains of an emerging nation as armies march to war and British institutions crumble in the face of armed rebellion.
