The first eight episodes of 'Outlander' Season 7 will air this summer on Starz.

It’s just three months until the end of Droughtlander! STARZ revealed today that the time-traveling epic romantic drama Outlander will premiere its seventh season on June 16.

That’s the good news. The bad news is that the supersized Season 7 will be divided into two, with the first eight episodes airing this summer, and the remaining eight not airing until sometime in 2024.

To mark the occasion, STARZ released several first-look photos, including Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Caitríona Balfe (Claire Fraser), Sophie Skelton (Brianna MacKenzie), Richard Rankin (Roger MacKenzie), John Bell (Young Ian), David Berry (Lord John Grey), and newcomer Charles Vandervaart (William Ransom), who will play Jamie’s illegitimate son from a one-night tryst the Scot had with Geneva Dunsany (Hannah James), the daughter of Lord and Lady Dunsany, while he was indentured at Helwater estate.

Outlander Season 7 will be based on two of bestselling author Diana Gabaldon’s novels, A Breath of Snow and Ashes (book 6) and An Echo in the Bone (book 7), as the sixth season was cut short due to COVID-19 and Caitríona’s pregnancy.

In addition to the abovenamed returning cast, Outlander Season 7 will see the return of Caitlin O’Ryan as Lizzie Beardsley and Paul Gorman as twins Josiah and Keziah Beardsley.

New additions to the cast include the aforementioned Vandervaart, and Izzy Meikle-Small as Rachel Hunter and Joey Phillips as her brother Denzell Hunter.

The Quaker brother and sister are introduced into the story when their lives are disrupted by the arrival of Young Ian at their farm with a sick and injured William. Denzell has been trained as a Doctor of Medicine in both Boston and London, and he is actually a doctor that Claire will come to know and approve of. As a firm believer in liberty, Denzell is preparing to join the Revolutionary Army as a surgeon, which goes against the approval of his fellow Quakers, and puts his sister Rachel in the position of having to follow him to war rather than staying home on their family farm.

Outlander has already been renewed for an eighth and final season and a prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood centering on Jamie Fraser’s parents has been greenlighted for a first season.

Outlander is set to premiere on Friday, June 16 at midnight ET on the STARZ app, all STARZ streaming and on-demand platforms. It will then debut on STARZ on Friday, June 16 at 8 p.m. ET/PT in the U.S.
