Outlander fans, it's time to listen up. Season 7 is premiering very soon, but its release comes with some conditions folks won't be too happy about.

On March 23, the hit Starz drama stunned its loyal viewers with a number of important announcements. The network revealed that the series will return to TV on Friday, June 16. But that wasn't all. Although Outlander season 7 will be comprised of 16 episodes, fans will only get to watch the first half this year, which means folks will have to wait to finish the rest of the installment in 2024.

"Ready for summer on Fraser’s Ridge? #Outlander Season 7 will officially premiere JUNE 16!" the show's Instagram wrote alongside posting teaser photos of the cast. "The sixteen episode season will be split into two parts with the first half premiering June 16 and the second half airing in 2024."

Though Outlander fans were thrilled about catching up with Claire Randall, Jamie Fraser and their family during the days of the American Revolution, some had other opinions. As it turns out, many felt enraged about how long it would take to see the entire season and proceeded to give their thoughts in the comments.

"Why do you do this to us 😭 I don’t want half next year. I want it all now!!" one person lamented on Instagram. "Splitting a season six months apart = two seasons. Let’s just call it what it is," another noted. "Great news!!! Can’t wait 😍😍 But the splitting of the season makes me a bit sad 😢," a different user wrote.

While it's unclear what caused Starz to split the latest Outlander season into two, there may be a potential reason for this happening. An official prequel to the drama, titled Outlander: Blood of My Blood, is currently in the works and it doesn't have an official premiere date yet. With this in mind, it's plausible that viewers will meet another set of Frasers during this break — Jamie's parents, whose love story will be the main focus of the new series.

As for what folks can expect from the latest season, Entertainment Weekly reports that it will be based on author Diana Gabaldon's seventh novel in the Outlander book series, titled An Echo in the Bone. The teaser trailer also detailed the Frasers living in the beginnings of a war-torn America, just as it struggles to gain independence from the British.

So, how do we feel about Outlander's surprise turn of events? Let's just say, we're preparing to head back to the 18th century later this summer with lots of patience.
