'Outlander' Fans Are Emotional Over Sam Heughan's Heartbreaking Update on Season 7

Rejoice, beloved viewers of Outlander. Sam Heughan just sang us a song about the status of season 7 on social media, leaving folks completely emotional about what it means for the future of the series.

In a recent photo posted to his Instagram, The Spy Who Dumped Me actor recently shared with his followers a major update about the period drama. Posting a selfie with his co-star Caitriona Balfe, fans saw the duo hold a filming clapboard with the words "That's a wrap!" written on it. But that wasn't all Sam had to say. He also gave a clue as to what's next ... which includes filming Outlander's eighth and final season.

"That’s a WRAP!!! 🙌," he wrote on February 24. "220 shooting days, a whole year of Outlander. THANK YOU to our amazing crew who have worked so hard and to our brilliant fans … we CANNOT WAIT for you to see season 8 @outlander_starz 🫶."

Couple this with the news that Outlander season 7 will premiere this summer, fans went nuts over Sam's announcement. To celebrate, many got in the comments about how much the series means to them.

"So many emotions with this picture. Feeling happy that season 8 is coming back this year on the other emotional spectrum, sad that this will be the last season, but then I am happy again because of the prequels coming out. I am an emotional wreck! 😢😂," one person wrote on Instagram. "And we cannot wait to see it! 🙌 Thank you Sam, Caitriona, and everyone involved in bringing this story to our screens ❤️," another added. "Woohoo the end of Droughtlander is in sight. 💜," a different user exclaimed.

So, is there any more information out there about seasons 7 and 8? Sadly, there's neither a season 7 release date nor a start date for production on the last set of episodes. But the show did give fans a sneak peek at what's to come by way of a minute-long teaser trailer.

What's more, executive producer Maril Davis gave a tiny hint as to what fans can expect for season 7. After a condensed previous season, viewers will be happy to hear more episodes will be in store this time around.

"We just tried our best to keep everyone safe so we could continue to tell the kind of stories we wanted," Maril told Entertainment Tonight in February 2022. "Our production really did an amazing job... We condensed season 6 and got all the good material in there. And then we're going to give you a supersized season 7, which will present its own challenges."

Needless to say, we're ready to get back to Fraser's Ridge sooner rather than later.
