'Outlander' Cast Celebrates the Wrap of Filming By Sharing Fun BTS Cast Photos!

Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Richard Rankin and Sophie Skelton will all be back for Season 7 of 'Outlander'.

The Droughtlander is getting one step closer to ending! STARZ announced today on its Outlander Twitter account that filming has officially wrapped on the time travel, romantic epic with a post with fun photos of cast members Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Caítriona Balfe (Claire Fraser), Richard Rankin (Roger McKenzie), Sophie Skelton (Briana McKenzie) and David Berry (Lord John).

Season 7 of Outlander, debuting this summer, will continue the story of the residents of Fraser’s Ridge based on the bestselling novels by Diana Gabaldon. With Season 6 having been cut short due to COVID-19 protocols and Caitriona’s pregnancy, Season 7 will pick up immediately following Claire’s arrest for the murder of Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds), which means there will be more story told from A Breath of Snow and Ashes before picking up events from the seventh novel in the series, An Echo in the Bone.

In addition to the returning cast named above, Season 7 will also see John Bell (Young Ian), Graham McTavis (Dougal McKenzie), Caitlin O'Ryan (Lizzie), Paul Gorman (Beardsley twins), and Lotte Verbeek (Geillis Duncan) reprise their roles. The return of Graham and Lotte, who are both long dead in the current Outlander story, hints at either flashbacks or someone will be traveling back in time.

Season 7 will also see the addition of several key players. Kristin Atherton will be taking over the role of Jenny Murray, previously played by Laura Donnelly, who moved on to other projects. The role of William Ransom, Jamie Fraser’s illegitimate son and Lord John's adoptive son, will be played by Canadian actor Charles Vandervaart, and Rachel Hunter and Denzel Hunter will be played by Izzy Meikle-Small and Joey Phillips, respectively.

The release of the updated opening sequence earlier this month also provided a few clues as to the subject to be covered in the supersized Season 7, which has been expanded to 16 episodes.

The buckets of water most likely equate to the bucket brigade that was set up when the Big House at Fraser’s Ridge catches fire. The couple holding hands most likely signals the romance between Young Ian and Rachel Hunter.

The dazzling blue sapphire was also seen back in Season 3. Jamie handed it over to Lord John after his brief escape from Ardsmuir prison, and book readers know he asks Lord John for a gemstone when Brianna and Roger need to go back to the future because of a health crisis that demands 20th century medical intervention. As viewers know, gemstones make the transition through the stones easier for the time travelers.

Look for Season 7 of Outlander on STARZ this summer. Outlander has been renewed for its eighth and final season.
