'Outer Wilds' Is Getting a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S Update In September

Annapurna Interactive and Mobius Digital's Outer Wilds is finally getting a current-gen update for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in September. The critically-acclaimed game was originally launched back in 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and quickly become one of the publisher's highest-rated games, earning a 10/10 on Steam, an 85/100 on Metacritic and a whole host of awards including Best Indie Game at the 2019 Golden Joystick Awards and Best Game and Game Design at the 2020 British Academy Games Awards.

The new update will obviously include a series of performance enhancements that'll make the most out of the updated hardware of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, including full 4K graphics running at 60 frames per second. The studio also reassures fans that the Nintendo Switch version is still in development.

As for those unfamiliar with the game itself, Outer Wilds is an action-adventure game with an open-world system placing players in the middle of a mystery about a solar system that's trapped in an endless time loop. As the newest recruit of Outer Wilds Ventures, a space program that searches for answers "in a strange, constantly evolving solar system," your task is to explore all edges of the system and discover hidden locations to solve the great mystery.

For those interested, the current-gen update for Outer Wilds will arrive on September 15.

Elsewhere in gaming, EA is rumored to be working on an open-world, single-player Black Panther game.
