Otherland’s Carefree ’90s Collection Has a Denim-Scented Candle

Ah, the ’90s—a decade of double denim, AIM messages, sticky lip gloss, and hitmaker boy bands and girl groups that we still have on repeat (but this time on our smartphones instead of our portable CD players). Our nostalgia for the ’90s is real, and so is Otherland’s, as it turns out. The trendy candle company recently came out with their new Carefree 90s collection, which houses three candles dedicated to one of the best decades. The three candles are all nostalgia-packed in their own ways, but there was one in particular that stood out to us: the Blue Jean Baby candle.

Even the name of the candle is majorly nostalgic. First off, the phrase “blue jean baby” is what starts Elton John’s classic ’70s hit “Tiny Dancer.” Then, as fate would have it, Elton John and our ’90s queen Britney Spears remixed the song last summer, over 50 years after the song’s original release. The universe works in mysterious ways.
And now that we’ve sufficiently geeked out over the name, let’s talk about the candle itself. The limited edition candle smells, like the name would imply, like jeans (though the term the brand uses is “washed denim”). But there are also notes of mimosa flower and white musk to round out the scent. Plus, the light and airy packaging is giving fresh laundry, fresh flowers, and light wash jeans—a perfect springtime vibe.
That’s not the only candle in the collection, though. In funky purple, pink, and blue packaging, Dreamlight is floral and citrusy, while the pretty pink Glosspop is sweet and candy-scented.
And now that memories of painting our nails with Bon Bons nail polish, shopping at Limited Too, and watching “The Powerpuff Girls” are swirling around in our mind, we somehow have the whole Carefree 90s collection sitting in our cart…
