Oscar de la Renta, who passed away late last year, made an indelible mark in the world of fashion, particularly New York City’s sartorial landscape. But it was still a bit surprising when Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Wednesday night during a press conference that the Dominican designer would have a street named after him.

The intersection of Fordham Road and Creston Avenue in the Bronx will be renamed in honor of the de la Renta. Although it is unclear if the designer himself ever frequented that area, it does feature a Right On Coat Store: Brand Names for Less as well as a tattoo parlor.

"He brought such joy in all he did," the mayor said. "He will be forever ingrained in the fabric of this city."
