The Original 'Rise of Skywalker' Director Just Confirmed a Big Leak
JJ Abrams' Rise of Skywalker may have received the lowest Rotten Tomatoes rating of all the live-action Star Wars movies, but we've just received an interesting confirmation of what the movie could've been.
Colin Trevorrow–the Jurassic World director who was previously meant to take charge of Episode 9 before Abrams – has spoken out after concept art leaks from his take on the Star Wars story suggested how differently the Skywalker saga could have ended.
A fan took to Twitter asking for answers, as the concept art included images of Kylo Ren and Darth Vader in a fierce lightsaber battle, as well as an injured – possibly dying – R2-D2.
Trevorrow responded on Twitter, confirming that these images were from Duel of the Fates (and seemingly confirming the leaked script that recently emerged online too), which was the working name of his version of Episode 9.
"But I'd never kill R2...he just took a bad hit," he added. "Happens to all of us."
Other tantalizing ideas from Trevorrow's Star Wars project included awesome roles for the classic cast, with Force Ghost Luke blocking Kylo Ren's saber with his hand and Leia delivering a message to BB-8 (a sweet callback to A New Hope).

Trevorrow previously spoke to Empire about the writing credit he ended up being given for Rise of Skywalker, a decision made by the director of the final Skywalker saga installment Abrams. "I'm grateful to [JJ] for embracing some of our ideas," Trevorrow said. "It's exciting that fans will get to see the moments that felt essential to all of us."
