'Get Organized With the Home Edit' Stars Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin Went Into Business Four Hours After Meeting

Get Organized with The Home Edit recently dropped on Netflix and I'm sure like the rest of us, you're downright obsessed with The Home Edit founders Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin. Since starting their business in 2015, these Nashville-based lifestyle gurus have climbed their way to success with their colorful organization hacks and cheeky sense of humor. Their fun approach to reorganizing the home has caught the attention of numerous celebrities over the years. In fact, season one features clients like Reese Witherspoon, Neil Patrick Harris, Khloe Kardashian, and more.

Basically, these decluttering queens are the current talk of the town. Here are 11 things you might not know about Get Organized with The Home Edit stars Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin.

They're both working moms

Between raising kids, filming a Netflix show, and managing the daily responsibilities of The Home Edit, these ladies sure have a lot on their plates. Shearer currently has two kids, Stella Blue and Sutton Gray, and is married to professional photographer John Shearer.

Teplin also has two kids, Miles Reid and Marlowe Aerin, according to The Home Edit's website. Unlike her business partner, she is very private about her personal live and is not active on social media. However, it is known that she married and she has mentioned her husband on the show and in interviews, although it is unknown who he is.

They decided to go into business together four hours after first meeting

For Shearer and Teplin, the best decisions are often made on a whim. In an interview with Create & Cultivate earlier this year, Shearer explains how The Home Edit came to be. "We met, became friends, and decided to start a business together after just four hours. Are we crazy?! The answer is probably yes. But that’s what makes us such great business partners," she told the outlet. She goes on to explain that she and Teplin are all for trusting their instinct. Even today, they can be found making "huge life-altering business decisions over lunch."

They have great senses of humor

Shearer and Teplin are very serious about their work, but they love to laugh. The Home Edit's Instagram account is full of hilarious posts that show off these ladies' goofy, fun-loving nature.

They're on TikTok

Whoever said TikTok is only for teenagers has not seen the The Home Edit's wildly entertaining channel. The account, which seems to be mostly managed by Shearer, features a variety of fun organizational hacks as well as some funny parenting and pop culture bits. The account's bio reads "organized....but a mess" and we've honestly never related more.

They think of each other as family

Shearer told BeautyCounter during a 2018 interview that she and Teplin are beyond just best friends. "Honestly, we’re not even best friends, we’re more like siblings. We really went from business partners to family, and I think because of that, we don’t have any of the pretenses of friendship."

They're on the New York Times best sellers list

The ladies’ first book The Home Edit: A Guide to Organizing and Realizing Your House Goals was released in 2019 and quickly climbed its way up the New York Times best seller list. The book focused on helping readers organize major clutter spots in their homes like their pantries and bookshelves. Compared to other titles in the genre, Shearer and Teplin’s fun and conversational tone (as if your best friend is talking to you) makes the book an entertaining and informative guide.

Their second book, which officially hits shelves on September 15, shows readers how to contain the chaos at home, no matter how busy their day-to-day life may get. "The truth is, you don't need have to live like a minimalist to feel happy and calm," the back cover of the book reads.

They have a YouTube series titled Master the Mess

Prior to filming Get Organized with The Home Edit, the ladies also starred in Master the Mess, a YouTube series produced by Reese Witherspoon's media company Hello Sunshine. The digital series features 12 short episodes that follow the ladies as they tackle client's homes. Each episode provides tips on targeting a certain area of the home.

Peruse The Home Edit’s Instagram account and you’ll notice many references to the comedy show, Schitt’s Creek, which focuses on a once-wealthy dysfunctional family who is forced to rough it in a small town.

The show has nothing to do with organization; however, it’s right up Shearer and Teplin’s alley when it comes to humor. In fact, in a 2019 interview with House of Harper, the ladies were asked which A-listers were on their dream client list. "Basically the entire cast of Schitt’s Creek," they replied. As it turns out, that dream partially came true when they got to work with Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy.

They're all for promoting equality

The ladies love of rainbow colors isn't just a style choice. They're strong advocates of the Black Lives Matter movement and have used their social platforms to call for change after the murders of Breonna Taylor and Elijah McClain. The ladies also recently debuted an "Organize Equality" apparel and merchandise collection in which 100% of the proceeds go to the Equal Justice Initiative and The Trevor Project.
