As Hurricane Fiona continues to make its way across the Caribbean, the storm has left much of Puerto Rico devastated. CNN reports that the majority of those in Puerto Rico, which is home to 3.1 million people, have lost power. Given that most of the island is without power, that has left many without the means to filter water or pump water into their homes.

Fortunately, there are organizations already on the ground working to provide those in Puerto Rico with the essentials needed during this trying time.

For those eager to help the many people who have been affected by Hurricane Fiona, here are a handful of organizations you can support.

Hispanic Federation

Last year, the Hispanic Federation helped supported 4.2 million individuals and families affected by COVID-19. And in the wake of Hurricane Fiona, the organization is already on the ground in Puerto Rico supporting communities across the island. They're currently accepting donations and have stressed that the upcoming days "are essential to get emergency services and supplies to those who need it most."

Global Giving

Global Giving, a non-profit organization that donates to charity projects around the world, has created the Hurricane Fiona Relief Fund. With a goal of $1 million, the fund will be used to deliver food and emergency medical supplies, provide shelter, support longer-term recovery efforts, and more.

Stronger Than Maria

Created after Hurricane Maria, Stronger Than Maria is another organization that is currently on the ground in Puerto Rico. The organization is accepting donations to support their recovery and response efforts on the island.

Brigada Solidaria del Oeste

Brigada Solidaria del Oeste, a grassroots disaster relief network, is currently accepting monetary donations to help those impacted by Hurricane Fiona. In addition to financial contributions, they're also accepting water purification tablets, solar lamps, water filters, and first aid kits as donations.

Diaspora for Puerto Rico

Diaspora for Puerto Rico, a non-profit organization based in New York City, is currently accepting donations through GoFundMe. The organization shared that they "are working with organizations on the Island that will directly support impacted communities."

Taller Salud

The community-based feminist organization, Taller Salud is also accepting various items as donations. Those items include non-perishable food, gallons of water, diapers, toiletries, and water filters. The organization is accepting donations via PayPal, as well.
