Sad news for New York City juice lovers: Pioneering juice bar chain Organic Avenue is closing up shop, according to news reports. (Yahoo Health reached out for confirmation to Organic Avenue HQ, but has yet to hear back.)

The company has struggled for a while, including a sale, layoffs of employees and its CEO, and stalled efforts to rebrand over the past few years.

Organic Avenue first opened in 2000, helping to kick off a health craze that’s spawned dozens of new chains and independent juiceries. According to Eater, all 10 remaining stores will close permanently at the end of the day today (Oct. 15).

Several other chains, on the other hand, are continuing to expand as the juice craze blazes on. California favorite Pressed Juice is opening its first East Coast brick and mortar, and New York’s Juice Press is opening up in Boston, following NYC-based Liquiteria, which opened there last year. It’s safe to say fans of the brand aren’t wont for replacement options, though its chocolate avocado mousse will be sorely missed by this editor.

Crushed by the news? Here’s how to make your own juice instead, and then turn that juice into a popsicle.
