UPDATE: Those Rumored Maple Creme Oreos Are Real And Will Be On Shelves THIS MONTH
Update, 8/3/19: According to Bustle, these previously reported on cookies are not only very real, but they are also very imminent. Yes, the site claims to have confirmation from Nabisco that Maple Creme Oreos will be on shelves everywhere "late August." As in, like, three freaking seconds from now!!!
Original post, 4/9/19: Less than four months into 2019, more than a dozen new Oreo flavors—some legit and launched, some just grand guesses—have been announced. And because we care about you so very much (why else would we try 25 Oreos in one sitting to tell you which is most worth the empty calories), we report on all of them. It's an exhausting, sugar-filled job, but someone's got to do it.
That's why we're back, yet again, with another Oreo launch announcement. (Hi! It me!) This time, rumor has it that Oreo is dropping a maple flavor sometime soon. According to the image posted on @junkbanter's account, the limited-edition treat will be made with golden cookies and maple-flavored creme.
And though you may think maple screams fall, now would actually be a super apropos time for Oreo to release the flavor. Let's break for a quick lesson. Northeast maple trees are tapped every year between February and April. Sap from the trees is collected then turned into maple syrup. And that maple syrup could then be collected by Oreo and turned into a flavoring. See—the timing kinda, sorta makes sense! (Even if the packaging reads "Artificially flavored," eep.)
That said, @junkbanter, Instagram's most trusted Oreo news leaker, posits that it's not coming out any time soon: "My mind and soul may be ready for spring & summer, but my body is permanently ready for fall. Bring on the new Maple Creme Oreos, debuting some time this year (I’d have to guess this will be a late summer release in advance of the fall season). Not exactly the most creative flavor, but Oreo should do a good job with it. I’m thinking like the Waffles & Syrup Oreos without the butter flavor, and a more intense maple. 🍁 Call me crazy but I’m sure we’re not too far away from a Maple Bacon or Chicken & Waffles Oreo."
