Oregon Resort Confirms First Six-Pack Lift Will Open In December

Yesterday, October 17th, Mount Bachelor, Oregon, confirmed that its new, under-construction Skyliner Express -- the resort's first six-person, high-speed chairlift -- will open to skiers and snowboarders this December.

The chair is replacing the Skyliner's previous iteration, an often beleaguered four-seater constructed in 1989 that has had maintenance issues over the years.

The Skyliner functions as a key terrain access point at Mount Bachelor, servicing the Woodward Terrain Parks and, according to a statement from the resort's website, is "the locals' favorite as our best ski-in/ski-out parking area."

"Skyliner is truly at the heart of our resort," Mount Bachelor wrote.

However, in the past, the chair has suffered from long lines and the aforementioned maintenance issues. With its replacement, Mount Bachelor hopes to improve its on-snow experience by "adding uphill capacity in a bottlenecked area during busy days."

The Bend Bulletin reports that the new Skyliner will increase skier capacity from "2,400 passengers per hour to 3,200 passengers per hour."

Construction for the upgraded Skyliner began in May 2023, with construction crews removing the lift's predecessor.

Earlier this month, Mount Bachelor shared footage of the new chair's upper terminal installation.

The news of Skyliner's pending completion comes alongside growing excitement for the upcoming ski season at Mount Bachelor. In early October, the resort saw autumn's first major snowfall, showing off a top-to-bottom coating of the white stuff.
