Oregon Humane Society Rescues Tiny Kitten Who Was Dyed Pink

The Oregon Humane Society helped save a tiny kitten that had been dyed pink and covered in toxic chemicals. On Tuesday, a Multnomah County Circuit Court judge found Elizabeth Zurcher-Wood guilty of one misdemeanor charge of animal abuse in the second degree. In addition to her probation, she was sentenced to the six days she had already spent in jail since her arrest.

Zucher-wood had brought the tiny kitten to the veterinarian. The kitten was barely responsive.

The news report from Koin.com is just horrific. "According to the veterinarian, Zurcher-Wood told them the kitten had diarrhea that she cleaned with a mix of Windex, Spic and Span, and rubbing alcohol. The doctor alleged that the woman had a Windex bottle with her during the hospital visit, and the kitten was still “soaked” in the solution."

That poor baby! Thank goodness the Oregon Humane Society, the OHS' Humane Law Enforcement team and the veterinarians were able to save this poor kitten.

Zurcher-Wood will be banned from possessing or owning domestic animals for the next five years.

The news report doesn't explain why the kitten was dyed in the first place, but a few comments on Facebook suggested it may have been used in dog fighting or dyed for a gender reveal. All we know is we are happy this kitten is safe and justice will be served.

What To Do If You Suspect Animal Cruelty

If you witness an animal being abused, report it to your local animal control, law enforcement, or humane organization. If these authorities agree that there’s the possibility of neglect or abuse, they will investigate and decide how to help the animal. You should never attempt to remove the animal from their owner, because if someone is awful enough to abuse an animal you could end up being hurt as well. AmericanHumane.org says you can help prevent animal cruelty by informing others about what to do if they see such an act or by helping them to better understand how to train and care for their pets. They suggest that people support any initiatives to strengthen your state’s anti-cruelty laws and that people contribute to or volunteer at their local shelter, where they must deal with these appalling situations regularly.

It's unthinkable to consider that anyone could hurt a helpless animal this way, and together we need to do everything we can to support anti-animal cruelty laws. No animal should ever be subjected to abuse of any kind.
