From orange crunch to Key lime: Last call to buy The Bubble Room's cakes in Fort Myers

This weekend is your last chance to buy The Bubble Room’s beloved cakes in Fort Myers.

The Captiva restaurant will be selling eight different cakes and half and whole orders of Bubble Bread from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16-17, around the back of Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre for the final time.

Generous slices of orange crunch, Key lime, French chocolate torte, Jamaican rum, white Christmas, red velvet, very moist chocolate and tropical breeze will be sold for $10.12 after taxes. Of those flavors, orange crunch — moist yellow cake layered with an almond brown sugar crunch and orange cream cheese icing — is the most popular. Half ($10.65) and whole loaves ($21.30) of Bubble Bread are also available.

The Bubble Room remains closed from damage caused by Hurricane Ian. “That’s coming along slowly but surely,” General Manager Stephen Peach said back in March.

Although The Bubble Room — an island favorite since 1979 with its bubble lights, old Hollywood posters, jukeboxes, train sets, antiques and more — was still standing after Hurricane Ian tore through the area Sept. 28, 2022, it was heavily damaged and remains closed.

It began selling its cakes at the dinner theater in January.

“The Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre in Fort Myers has been unbelievably gracious in allowing The Bubble Room to use their kitchen facility to bake and sell cake,” the restaurant posted on its Facebook page early this year.

While work has begun on the interior of the restaurant, it looks like it will still be a bit before it reopens.

In the meantime, Boops By The Bubble Room, next door to the restaurant, reopened in March and is selling coffee, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, pastries, ice cream and, of course, those cakes, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

The Bubble Room Emporium, which sells unique gifts and Bubble Room merchandise from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, reopened earlier this month.

That leaves The Bubble Room as the last of the property’s three businesses to reopen.

But don’t worry, there are plenty of cakes at Boops.
