Orange Cow Burgers: El Paso's answer to In-N-Out? Here's our take

The West Side welcomes the second location of Orange Cow Burgers at 4018 N. Mesa St., adding to its original at 955 N. Resler Drive, Suite 110.

Hearing that it is compared to In-N-Out Burger, California's often touted burger, we decided to try it out.

The aroma of burgers grilling welcomes you as you walk through the door, and then that's followed by the sight of employees busy cooking behind a glass window. The color scheme is to be expected, lots of orange and white.

Like In-N-Out Burger, the menu at Orange Cow Burgers is simple. It offers a Single Cow, one patty, for $6.75, a Double Cow for $8.75, and a Triple Cow for $10.75. Each burger is cooked to medium and topped with American cheese, lettuce, tomato slices, onion jam, pickles and Orange Cow Burgers' signature sauce.

If you're following a keto diet, you'll like the Protein Cow, which replaces the buns with lettuce.

The prices are a good deal in this economy, and the Tuesday-Friday lunch special is even better: $7.99 plus tax for a Single Cow, fries and a drink.

If you order the combo, the burgers are wrapped halfway so you can see all the fresh ingredients. They are then served over a paper tray of thick French fries.

Orange Cow burgers definitely taste fresh and are made pretty quick to order. The buns are soft and all the ingredients, from patty to lettuce and tomato, peek out of the buns. We added some green chile ($1.54) and bacon ($1.54), which were an extra plus.

Orange Cow Burgers has two locations on the West Side of El Paso. The burger joint is often compared to In-N-Out Burger and does a good job of holding its own.

No need to yearn for In-N-Out Burger with Orange Cow. It's definitely a place to come back to when you're hankering for a filling, juicy burger.

Hours: Closed Mondays. 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
