Oprah Winfrey and Meghan Markle’s Mom Doria Ragland Spent a Perfect Day Together
In advance of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, spent time in London with the royal family. It turns out, though, that she also met with another of the esteemed wedding guests. Oprah Winfrey revealed in a new interview that she and Ragland spent a lovely day together a few weeks before the ceremony, and it sounds like a dream.
Speaking with ET, Winfrey cleared up rumors that she hosted Ragland at her home in the hopes of scoring an interview with her.
“The story was that Meghan’s mom had come to my house and she left laden with gifts,” she said. “You know what the gifts were? First of all, she’s great at yoga, so I said, ‘Bring your yoga mat and your sneaks in case we just want to do yoga on the lawn.’ So one of the bags was a yoga mat and the other was lunch.”
The Wrinkle in Time star didn’t offer up any details about their potential yoga session, but she did note that she also gave Ragland a basket of kumquats from her tree after Markle’s mother expressed her love of the fruit.
Markle’s family experienced their share of headline-grabbing drama in advance of her wedding to Prince Harry. Her father, who was supposed to walk her down the aisle, pulled out at the last minute due to health problems and involvement in a paparazzi scandal. It was rumored that Ragland would take over the duties, but instead Markle walked halfway through the chapel alone and then with Prince Charles to the altar, as her mother looked on proudly. Ragland has not given any interviews since her daughter was thrust into the global spotlight, but her smile that day spoke volumes.
