Of course I need them.

Whenever I’m in a wardrobe crisis — as in I just do not know what to wear — there’s one (very specific) pair of pants that I know I can always fall back on. No, I’m not talking about my trusty blue jeans, though I have those, too; instead, I repeatedly reach for my go-to black Spanx trousers that look like designer pants but feel like sweats. Yes, they exist, and yes, they just got the most fall-perfect makeover, ever, which means I’ll be adding a fresh pair to my lineup, stat.

The bottoms I’m talking about? The Perfect Pants from Spanx, of course. If you know me, and you’ve read some of my work, you’ll know I’ve waxed poetic about them time and again, because I really do think they’re perfect and hence, aptly named the Perfect Pants. It’s not just me that thinks they’re oh-so great, either — Oprah once deemed them her “favorites,” which speaks volumes to the design and fit, and my mom, who’s extremely picky about her pants, is just as in love with them as I am. She wears them all the time (just like me!)

That said, while I’m a big fan of the classic black option — I think the hue provides the most versatility and styling options, which is also why they’ve been my saving grace for months — the pants just received the most fall-perfect makeover. And before you even ask: Yes, I’m scooping up a new pair because they feel so on-trend for fall 2023. Trust me.

Considering fall is synonymous with plaid prints (ahem, back-to-school vibes) and rich jewel-tones, it’s fitting the Perfect Collection now includes a slew of checkered patterns that lean very Clueless. My personal favorite, the wide-leg bottoms, are now available in a classic plaid print that I plan on styling with a white turtleneck and matching pointed-toe boots all season long. One of the OG silhouettes, the flared option, now comes in a retro-leaning, blue-and-brown houndstooth that actually convinced me, a houndstooth hater, to try the print again. Plus, the universally flattering kick-flare style has been reimagined in an orange plaid as well as a yellow houndstooth, both of which are actually very versatile, too. See — I told you it was good.

Though the prints are new, the DNA of the Perfect Pant is all the same. So, if you’ve ever tried any style from the collection, fret not: Everything you love about them has remained. The silhouettes are, obviously, unchanged, as is the smoothing, four-way stretch ponte fabric that’s as comfy as sweats but looks as elevated as designer trousers. There’s also the hidden shaping, butt-lifting technology, plus the beloved no-zipper, machine-washable design that’s a total game changer. I told you they're perfect.

All styles range from $128 to $178 and come in sizes XS to 3X. And yes, some are already selling out — so, if you’re eyeing it, consider buying it, stat. I’m making these mine; which pair are you making yours?
