Every Sunday, Oprah is setting an intention for the upcoming week—exclusively for Oprah Insiders—with reflections on themes like letting go, forgiveness, coming into your own, and more. Every day this week, you'll find advice on how to find joy in your day-to-day life.

Well, hello Oprah Insiders!

Happy week to you. I hope you got the “joy, joy, joy, joy" feeling down in your heart, down in your heart. Because today I want to talk about the word we're hearing all this holiday season when everything is supposed to be so merry and bright. I know we hear the word a lot—TV commercials, songs—but when was the last time you actually felt it in your core? A moment that stops you and you’re overcome with this sense of well-being and all is right with the world, in spite of the world being what it is? Well, if you're busy and running around all day, which I know so many of you are, that kind of joy can seem elusive. But maybe we need to shift our perspective, is what I’m thinking.

Instead of thinking of joy as some impossibly far-off place, I know we can find those little pieces of light in our day-to-day lives—no matter what is going on. So for me, I can find joy anywhere, especially in a rainy day. And I do mean that. That is one thing that Tina Turner and I disagree on—“I can’t stand the rain against my window, bringing back sweet memories.” I love it. A day when I can stay in my PJs all day and read? Nothing better for me. I’d take it over a trip to Paris. Unfortunately, rain doesn’t happen all too often here in California.

So for me, a long bath with a good book—these are my simple joys. Moments of joy also often happen when I allow myself just to get still and feel the connection I have to the power that I know to be greater than myself, the force that runs through my life. Nature. Poetry. All of it makes me feel a sense of joy. So if you start looking for your life’s simple joys, just pause, look around, and see—what is it that actually makes your spirit enhance? Makes you feel a sense of abundance? What brings you joy? Can you share with me in the comments what that is?

This week on Oprah Daily, we’re going to be highlighting joy. How to define it, find it, and even science-backed ways to create more of it in hopes that you’ll find many reasons to smile this week and to pass that smile on as you move through your life with the intention this week of discovering more joy, joy, joy, joy. Have a great week.
