Oprah announced her milestone 100th book club pick today on CBS Mornings. And the new selection is…drumroll, please... Hello Beautiful, by Ann Napolitano. “I’m telling you,” Oprah says of the novel, “once you start, you won’t want it to end…and be prepared for tears.”

Inspired by the classic Little Women, Hello Beautiful is the story of four inseparable sisters who live in Pilsen, a working-class neighborhood of Chicago. Sylvie is the bookworm, Cecelia is an artist, and Emeline is the patient caretaker of them all. When Julia, the eldest sister, marries William Waters while in university, a new era for the Padavanos begins—including weekly family dinners and, soon, a baby. But when a trauma from William’s past resurfaces, it jeopardizes not only the couple’s carefully orchestrated plans but the sisters’ unshakable devotion to one another.

“Oprah calling me on the phone, out of the blue, to tell me that she loved my novel and had decided to select it for her book club was so unbelievably exciting that I'm pretty sure I'm still in shock,” Napolitano tells us. “She has done so much to amplify authors and their work. The writers and books she has featured in her club reads like a list of my literary heroes, and to be included among them is an unbelievable honor.”

When Oprah began her book club in 1996, she set out to champion authors and encourage reading across the world. Her first selection, The Deep End of the Ocean, by Jacquelyn Mitchard, is about a family that learns to cope after the disappearance of their child. Her 99th, Demon Copperhead, a reimagining of Charles Dickens’s David Copperfield, is about a young orphan in the foster-care system in Appalachia. In between, Oprah’s Book Club has featured everything from Tolstoy to Viola Davis’s memoir to Elie Wiesel’s Night to debut author Ayana Mathis.

Oprah’s 100th book club selection takes us on journey through generations of love and heartbreak, fractured trust and forgiveness. “The whole reason I started a book club was to uplift and inspire people,” says Oprah. “A great book not only enhances your life experience but can also change you. Our 100th selection does just that—you cannot read it without opening up, forgiving, seeing yourself and the relationships we weave in a new way. You come away more connected to life.”
