OPINION:(Column) All About Ashville

May 16—Last week was National Correctional Officers week. To paraphrase the Bible, greater love has no man than he who lays down his life for his friends. You put yourself in harm the way to keep us safe. You are local heroes. Please forgive the belated recognition but we do thank you.

The high school bat swingers had a good week. Lexi St. John, Talisha Samaniego and Ansley Brashier were elected for the 4A all area team. Among the boys is Trevor Weeks. Remember these names. They Well likely require and this and other newspapers in the future.

We all know the benefits of playing sports for kids. Among other advantages, it's a healthy wholesome activity. It helps instill a teamwork mentality. Competition helps bolster self-esteem. Theater has much of the same benefits. and also helps teenagers work through their emotions and learn about different cultures.

Ghost Light Theater Company will be offering auditions for actors, singers and dancers, from grades third through 12, 6 p.m. May 28. Everyone who auditions should be prepared to see a 60 second musical theater song. They should have a 60 second monologue memorized and be ready to perform. and they should also be prepared for impromptu dance audition.

Rehearsals start in August. Everyone accepted will be required to compete at the Alabama Youth Theater Experience. There will be other local competitions. However, they will be optional.

A tour of springville's historic sites begins Sunday and are from 2-4 p.m. with the last tour beginning at 3:00 p.m. This is not just a tour of Springville's historic sites. It will be living history entertainment with members of the historical society portraying former citizens and telling interesting stories. It is a free event, but donations are welcome.
