Oops! J.J. Watt Has the Perfect Response to Making a Little Boy Cry

This isn’t the first time our favorite Houston Texans player has gotten into hot water with kids. But, in true J.J. Watt form, the defensive lineman with a famously big heart found a way to remedy what could have been a very sticky situation before Sunday’s matchup against New Orleans.

Watt has a pregame ritual of going around the stadium playing catch with kids. Unfortunately, a fun pass thrown to Saints punter Thomas Morstead’s son Beckett, who was in the crowd that night, didn’t go smoothly. The pigskin apparently sailed right into the little boy, knocking his lollipop out of his mouth and onto the ground.

"Last night he threw a ball to Beckett and knocked the lollipop out,” Morstead recalled on Twitter. “Bottom line, JJ made my kid cry."

But that’s not where this story ends. According to Morstead, Watt had the perfect solution to the little boy’s woes. "As quickly as the crying ensued, it stopped. JJ was nice enough to give his gloves to Beckett," he said alongside a photo (below) of his two sons wearing Watt’s big white gloves. "Thanks for making an awesome memory for my boys."

Later that day, Watt took to Twitter to apologize. "Oh man I had no idea that was your son, I felt so bad when I saw the ball hit that lollipop," Watt said. "I'm glad it all ended up alright. Sorry about that!"

Watt is no stranger to making people smile. The 30-year-old who raised millions of dollars for victims of Hurricane Harvey made headlines last month after he accidentally broke a five-year-old’s bike during a ceremonial ride. Naturally, the self-described “big man” didn’t hesitate to replace it.

Now that’s what we call a role model.
