Give my regards to Only Murders in the Building season 3. In particular, the guest stars they have rounded up for an especially musical season of the murder mystery comedy. The bar for guest stars is pretty high on this show; Previous seasons have welcomed the likes of Nathan Lane, Cara Delevingne, Amy Schumer, Jimmy Fallon, and Sting. They didn't have to top it. But spoiler alert, they did anyway.
The usual suspects (Andrea Martin, Tina Fey, and Jane Lynch) reprise their guest star roles in season 3, but since the third season of the show takes place in the dangerous, mysterious world of Broadway rehearsals, there are a lot of new characters. Many of them, you will notice, are from the New York theatre world themselves. Here are all the new faces you can spy on Only Murders in the Building this season:
Paul Rudd as "Ben Glenroy"
He's a comedy star. He's a Marvel superhero. He's your favorite guest star on Friends and Parks and Recreation. Paul Rudd is everywhere! He might also be immortal (we've all seen the memes about how he doesn't age)... just not on Only Murders in the Building, because his character is, in fact, the guy who dies this season.
Meryl Streep as "Loretta"
Meryl Streep is... Meryl Streep. She's playing a failed/struggling theatre actor on Only Murders, but IRL she started off on the New York stage. Most of Meryl's theatre roles were in contemporary, Chekhov, and Shakespeare plays, but she did star in one Broadway musical called Happy End. That's right: the Mamma Mia! movie wasn't her first foray into musical theatre, and Only Murders likely won't be the last.
Ashley Park as "Kimber"
Before Ashley Park stole scenes in Emily in Paris and took center stage in Joy Ride, she was a biiiiig time theatre girlie. Her Broadway debut was in the ensemble of Mamma Mia. She then played Tuptin in a revival of The King and I with an all-star cast including Ken Watanabe, Kelli O'Hara, Ruthie Ann Miles, and Conrad Ricamora. Other credits of hers include the Sunday in the Park With George revival, Grand Horizons, KPOP off-Broadway, and of course Gretchen Wieners in Mean Girls: The Musical.
Jesse Williams as "Tobert"
Jesse Williams recently earned a Tony nomination for Take Me Out, his Broadway debut. And you probably know him from Grey's Anatomy, The Cabin in the Woods, or Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 if you're a real one.
Linda Emond as "Donna"
Recently, Linda Emond played Michelle-Anne Vanderhoven on Succession and Clara Barton on The Gilded Age. But when she's not making prestige HBO shows, Linda is an award-winning stage actor (in New York and elsewhere) whose Broadway credits include Cabaret, Death of a Salesman, and 1776.
Wesley Taylor as "Cliff"
The nepo baby producer hasn't said much so far, but knowing actor Wesley Taylor's credits I don't think that will last. Wesley made his Broadway debut in Rock of Ages and went on to star in The Addams Family as well as the topical SpongeBob Squarepants: The Broadway Musical. He also played the Mad Hatter in the off-Broadway musical Alice By Heart, which starred Theater Camp's Molly Gordon and Noah Galvin.
I've seen a few speculate that his character is inspired by IRL Broadway producer Jordan Roth, who was also the basis for Max's father Gideon on Gossip Girl. Wild if true!
Adrian Martinez as "Gregg"
The secret superfan may have been a red herring, but he was a fun addition to the show. You know Adrian from Renfield, A Gifted Man, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Noma Dumezweni as "Maxine"
You may have seen Noma Dumezweni recently in Pose, The Undoing, or as Prince Eric's royal mother in The Little Mermaid. Noma is a two-time Oliver Award winner, first for A Raisin in the Sun in 2006 and then for her portrayal of Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on the West End. She then reprised the latter role on Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award to boot.
Gerald Caesar as "Ty"
Ty is another member of the cast, and therefore another prime suspect. Gerald appeared on screen in the Dear Evan Hansen movie and on stage in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical, Choir Boy, and A Bronx Tale: The Musical.
Allison Guinn as "K.T."
You might recognize the actor playing the stage manager from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Like many of the cast this season, she's also a Broadway baby who appeared in the 2009 revival of Hair, the 2014 revival of On The Town, and the National Tour of Les Miserables.
Matthew Broderick as himself
The Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Inspector Gadget actor appears as Charles' rival and himself. This is especially exciting for the theatre kids in the room because Matthew is well known for starring in the Broadway musical (and later movie musical) adaptation of The Producers alongside another OMITB frequent guest star: Nathan Lane. He's also just a legendary stage actor who won his first Tony Award back in 1983 for his Broadway debut in Brighton Beach Memoirs.
Mel Brooks as himself
Speaking of The Producers, the biggest cameo comes on the heels of Matthew's arrival, and it's the writer and director of the film himself. Mel is also, of course, the genius behind Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and The History of the World Part 1, whose recent spin-off The History of the World Part 2 is a Hulu original.
