Only Harry Styles Can Turn a Black Suit into a Menswear Flex

By Megan Gustashaw.

The idea of wearing head-to-toe black, especially black formalwear, is all about looking slick but ultimately keeping a low profile. So leave it to Harry Styles, one of the best-dressed men in the world right now and a man totally unafraid of any outfit that comes his way, to turn it into a showoff moment that rivals any overtly loud tailoring move—even his own.

At the Dunkirk premiere in New York last night the musician-turned-actor’s look was both an outward flex and a slightly veiled one. What started out pretty normal on top—black tuxedo jacket, black dress shirt—turned into something only a front-man would wear from the waist down. Styles had rings on practically every finger and his pants were subtly winged out and embroidered at the ankle and around the hem. And then there were the Western-inspired, Cuban-heeled boots; the kind that typically require a ten-gallon hat or a holster of some kind to balance out. It was a look, to say the least, one that Harry Styles was pretty much born to to wear.

Knowing that Raf Simons designed this marching band meets Marlboro man outfit for the Calvin Klein 205W39NYC label, and that some of the pieces haven’t even been seen by the masses yet (those pants belong to the still-secret Pre-Spring 2018 collection) is the part where you realize this daring black suit is also a menswear flex of the highest caliber. Simons' vision for the new Calvin Klein is still in its infancy and only a select few male celebrities have even had the opportunity to wear his clothes on the red carpet. So Styles rolling up to a huge movie premiere in the rig is a proof that he is not only a style god to the public, but the fashion industry is starting to see him that way too.

(Not that anyone but the wildest dressers in the pack will be rolling up to a holiday party in a suit this crazy. Those boss shoes though? Hell yes. They just hit stores if you're interested.)
