Celebrate Earth Day the Jane way.

One of the greatest champions of nature and Mother Earth is Dr. Jane Goodall, 89, considered to be the world’s foremost expert on chimpanzees. Her long career has spanned conservation, groundbreaking primate research, activism and mentorship.

She’s been celebrated with multiple awards, books and shows—and here’s another one, just in time for Earth Day (April 22). Jane (April 14 on Apple TV +) is a family-friendly live-action/animation hybrid series starring a 9-year-old budding environmentalist (Ava Louise Murchison) who, like her idol, Goodall, is on a quest to save endangered animals.

The show is from Emmy Award winner J.J. Johnson and the Jane Goodall Institute, her nonprofit global conservation organization. “I’m excited about this opportunity,” Goodall said. “Jane spreads a message of hope and reminds children that the environment is something that we all have to be concerned about while also inspiring them and their parents to make a difference.”

Here are a couple of ways you can be like Jane and make a difference too.

Plant Something

“All around the world, everywhere I go I plant a tree,” Goodall told Stella McCartney in a 2023 interview. “A simple act that has such positive repercussions. That’s also a great place to start [helping the environment], planting indigenous trees and allowing our natural landscape to thrive again.” Go to nwf.org/nativeplantfinder to find native trees and plants in your area.
