The Spring One Room Challenge Starts Today: Here's How to Follow Along

The semiannual design event of the year is here! The One Room Challenge (ORC) kicks off today, May 6, and is about to fill your Instagram feed with loads of design inspiration. Plus, we're thrilled to yet again be the media partner for this spring's challenge. (If you need a refresher of what past makeovers have looked like, check out the 20 official room makeovers from last fall's challenge.)

The ORC began in 2011 when Linda Weinstein arranged for a group of friends to hold each other accountable as they each finished tackling just one room in their homes. The challenge has since turned into a highly anticipated design event that takes place every spring and fall. Each season highlights the work of a select group of talented design influencers as well as a number of guest participants. Now in its 17th season, the ORC encourages and inspires design enthusiasts as it celebrates creativity and originality.

On Wednesday, May 6, this spring's 20 featured designers (including Tim Lam of Design Maze and Rebecca Plumb of Studio Plumb, who were selected as participants by the Better Homes & Gardens home editors) will reveal the spaces they've selected and their plans to overhaul them. Every Wednesday for the following eight weeks, they will share the progress they've made and the challenges they're facing. It all culminates with the big reveal on Wednesday, June 24.

Although it typically runs for five weeks, the ORC has been extended this year to accommodate potential challenges caused by COVID-19, which could include shipping delays or lifestyle changes such as a new homeschooling schedule. To make the event as safe as possible, participants are encouraged to get creative with items they already have, support other participants, and stay home.

Follow us and One Room Challenge on Instagram as we share some of the ORC highlights. You can also follow #oneroomchallenge and #BHGORC so you don't miss a single post. And be sure to look for the full recap of all 20 spaces on June 24. We can't wait to see the stunning transformations!
