Gordon Ramsay's Reaction to a 'MasterChef' Contestant Jokingly Hitting on Him Is Hilarious
MasterChef season 10 just kicked off on May 29, and already this year's batch of contestants are exceeding expectations.
Just like in past seasons of MasterChef, this year judges Gordon Ramsay, Aarón Sánchez, and Joe Bastianich are tasked with choosing which cooks they believe to be the absolute best. The selected finalists are then awarded a white apron and put in the top 20 for a chance to become season 10's champion. The winner this year will take home a $250,000 grand prize ... not to mention, some pretty epic bragging points.
Here are the contestants in the top 20 fighting for the title in this year's competition:
Wuta Onda
From: Bronx, New York
Occupation: English Teacher
Top 20 Dish: Teriyaki salmon with fried rice
"This is how you come out of the gate," Aarón told Wuta after the hopeful cook presented a perfectly cooked salmon dish.
Bri Baker
From: Dallas, Texas
Occupation: Cocktail Server
Deanna Colon
From: Simi Valley, California
Occupation: Vocal Coach
Eliminated: June 12
Deanna may have earned a white apron in the first round, but she was promptly eliminated after serving the judges scallops with rosemary mashed potatoes and a fennel salad. But before getting the boot, she did get a hilarious opportunity to jokingly hit on Gordon. "Where is me on that plate?" Gordon asked. Deanna responded,"I wanted to make something lean and sexy and refined." The Hell's Kitchen star then quipped back,
"Lean, sexy, and refined? I'm old enough to be your granddad."
Evan Tesiny
From: Brooklyn, New York
Occupation: Sales Coordinator
Top 20 Dish: New York strip with polenta and oyster mushrooms
Not only did Gordon tell Evan that his New York strip was seasoned well, but he also called his work "ambitious." Moments later, Evan walked out with an apron in hand.
Fred Chang
From: Redondo Beach, California
Occupation: Revenue Analyst
Top 20 Dish: Plated Chocolate Cake
Gordon literally couldn't get enough of Fred's moist and rich cake - he even licked the plate. Needless to say, Fred's dish was a hit.
Kimberly White
From: New York, New York
Occupation: Shoe Designer
Michael Silverstein
From: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Occupation: Real Estate Flipper
Micah Yaroch
From: Grand Rapids, Michigan
Occupation: Kitchen Porter
Top 20 Dish: Sea Bass dish
Although Micah's churros didn't impress the judges the first time around, Gordon gave him a second chance to show off his talent. And when he did by presenting a perfectly cooked fish in round two, Micah won the last apron.
Noah Sims
From: Epworth, Georgia
Occupation: Septic Systems Foreman
Top 20 Dish: Southern burger
Noah barely had enough time to plate his creation, but luckily he pulled it off in the end. Gordon and the others were anxious to give him a white apron after tasting his flavorful burger.
Renee Rice
From: Ada, Oklahoma
Occupation: Receptionist
Shari Mukherjee
From: Rochester, New York
Occupation: Stay-at-Home Mom
Top 20 Dish: Red snapper with green coconut curry
Shari explained during the second episode that her husband taught her how to cook Indian food really well. Before handing over an apron, Gordon told Shari that he could tell she really knew her stuff.
Liz Linn
From: Duran, Michigan
Occupation: Events Consultant
Top 20 Dish: Mediterranean red snapper
Liz explained on the first episode that she recently went through a bad divorce and is anxious to move on and pursue her cooking passion. After Liz nailed the preparation of her fish dish, she earned an apron and became one step closer to having her culinary dreams realized.
Dorian Hunter
From: Cartersville, Georgia
Occupation: Creeler
Top 20 Dish: Drunken chocolate cake with hazelnut toffee and vanilla bean anglaise
The 45-year-old cook took her family's favorite drunken cake recipe and brought it to the main stage in the premiere episode. Worth the risk? It appears so - the judges awarded her three "yes" votes. Gordon then said that Dorian is one of the "ones to watch" this year.
Keturah King
From: London, U.K.
Occupation: Freelance Writer
Top 20 Dish: Bibimbap with beef bulgogi
Joe said the dish was really smart thanks to its "African fusion." Moments later, the judges put Keturah through to the next round.
Nick DiGiovanni
From: Barrington, Rhode Island
Occupation: College Student
Top 20 Dish: Lamb ravioli with creme fraiche and mint oil
Even though Joe thought he wouldn't like the 22-year-old's ravioli dish, one bite changed his mind. The plate ended up impressing the judges and had them handing over the white apron.
Subha Ramiah
From: West Nyack, New York
Occupation: R&D Director
Top 20 Dish: Chicken and sausage jambalaya with raita
Subha's mother was in the audience and told Gordon that she believes her son deserves an apron. Turns out, he agreed.
Jamie Hough
From: Poly's Island, South Carolina
Occupation: Fisherman
Top 20 Dish: Red snapper with a crawfish cream sauce
Jamie's seafood knowledge came in handy during the premiere episode. His red snapper dish blew the judges away.
Sam Haaz
From: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Occupation: Attorney
Top 20 Dish: Cold steak salad with herbs and fried shallots
Like Dorian, the judges told Sam that he was also "the one to watch," so putting Sam through was an easy decision.
Kenny Palazzolo
From: Boston, Massachusetts
Occupation: Carpenter
Top 20 Dish: New York strip braciole with vegetable risotto
Eliminated: June 12
Kenny presented a visually stunning steak dish in the first round. But his second-round plate? Not so much. Even though his pan-seared scallops with mushroom, roasted potatoes, and mushy peas were deemed tasty, Joe couldn't stand the presentation of the dish. As a result, the judges asked Kenny to turn in his white apron for good.
Sarah Faherty
From: San Diego, California
Occupation: Former Army Interrogator
Top 20 Dish: Herb-crusted rack of lamb with fondant potato and pea puree
Joe said the lamb was on the rare side for him, but Gordon found the dish to be wonderful. Even though Joe hesitated to give Sarah an apron at first, he eventually budged.
