One Major Cameo Could Bring ‘Ms. Marvel’ Toward ‘The Marvels’

Holding out for cameos in the Disney+ Marvel Cinematic Universe shows has been something of a mixed bag. Let's go down the list: WandaVision was great, but for some reason people were really holding out hope for a Mephisto cameo that didn't happen. We did get Evan Peters as...someone, at least. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier brought us a familiar face as a sinister new presence, Loki gave us exactly who we wanted, and Hawkeye brought us a new favorite and a returning feared villain. Moon Knight didn't tease much, and we didn't get much. So what can we expect as far as Ms. Marvel cameos go?

Things can go just about anywhere. With this being the origin story for Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), we're starting the story in basically two places at once. All of our main characters are brand new presences that we haven't seen before, but the characters—and especially our lead, Kamala—are acutely aware of everything that's happened in the MCU with the Avengers. Unlike Moon Knight, we know exactly when and where this story is taking place within the MCU. And we know that while Kamala loves all the Avengers, she's got one favorite in particular: Carol Danvers (Brie Larson).

In fact, much of the first episode centers on Kamala's desire to make sure she has the perfect Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel cosplay for AvengerCon. It helps that her best friend, Bruno (Matt Lintz), happens to be some sort of genius inventor (maybe in time for next year's Armor Wars, Bruno could catch the attention of Stark Industries and its close associate Colonel James Rhodes (Don Cheadle)? Just spitballing here). But on her way to perfect her costume, Kamala also happens upon an ancient family artifact—one that unlocks her own superpowers, and sets her on a hero's journey and origin story of her own.

And now that Kamala gets to figure out how to be as much like her idol as possible, we have to wonder—will Marvel let us see these two "Marvel" heroes come together? We've got some ideas.

Will Carol Danvers be in Ms. Marvel?

That is a great question. We don't know for sure right now, but it certainly feels like a possibility. If you consider the source material—largely G. Willow Wilson's Ms. Marvel Vol. 3 comics, which introduced the Kamala Khan character—then we can certainly expect some cameos. Like MCU Kamala, the Kamala in the comics is a superfan and frequently meets some of her favorite heroes. Check her out with our old friend Wolverine, for example:

Really, any of our heroes could be in play for a cameo. We've already heard about Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) going on a podcast and telling the whole story about facing off with Thanos (likely setting him as something of a celebrity in next year's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania). In WandaVision we heard Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) and Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) talking about the battle with Thanos like it was last year's Super Bowl or World Series. This stuff is common knowledge within the universe at this point—and that makes it kind of fun, and kind of unpredictable.

Could we see a Bucky Barnes cooking show? Sure. What about Hulk hosting the MCU version of Saturday Night Live? Yeah, could happen. But let's focus for now on Kamala's #1 fav: Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel.

We'll have to see—but Brie Larson did just post an image on her social media accounts. Could simply be encouraging, but could also be a nice little hint at what's to come.

Maybe Monica Rambeau will be in Ms. Marvel instead.

Marvel could also keep us on our toes—we're totally expecting to see Carol Danvers meet Kamala by the end of the season, but why not another in to Captain Marvel instead? Last we saw of Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) in WandaVision, she had gotten powers by going through The Hex. We also know that she's going to also be in next year's Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels.

Maybe we keep it in the Disney+ family and Monica and Kamala link up?

Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan will certainly meet by the time of The Marvels.

One nice piece of assurance that we can have with this mystery? We know that Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) will all be main characters in The Marvels next year, which will be directed by Candyman's Nia DaCosta. This is an endpoint that we haven't had since we knew that Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) would show up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after WandaVision.

Then again, we didn't see Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in WandaVision after all—so who really does know?
