One-Horned Antelope Still Missing After Escaping Massachusetts Zoo

Mary has been missing from the Lupa zoo for a week.

An Eland antelope escaped from the Lupa Zoo last week in Massachusetts. Eland antelopes are the world's largest antelope species, and they can reach up to 6 feet tall at the shoulder and weigh up to 2,000 pounds. The antelope, named Mary, made her getaway when a tree fell during a recent storm and broke the paddock where she was housed with her antelope friend named George.

These beautiful animals have long, spiral-shaped horns that can grow up to 2 feet in females, except Mary is missing one of her horns.

Animal control in Ludlow posted the following to their Facebook page:

The post reads in part, "She is a non-aggressive herbivore. Do not approach because she will run, instead, call your local police to notify the extraction team."

Viewer @Markgodbout commented, "Hope she is rescued soon!" @Angerose added, "It’s like “Madagascar- The True Story” lol. I hope she’s ok and gets home safely." @Sarahyoung said, "I wish the next person to see it would have some food and try to keep it there until help comes."

There have been conflicting reports that it was the male antelope that escaped, but according to the zoo, it was the female who ran away.

People are warned that if they see the antelope they should not approach it and should instead call police. Here's hoping Mary gets home safe and sound soon!
