False Alarm: One Direction Is Not Reuniting on “The Late Late Show with James Corden”

Well, it turns out that the rumors of a One Direction reunion on The Late Late Show with James Corden were too good to be true. Hours after The Daily Mail reported that the former boy band (which includes Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne) might appear on the host’s final episode, the talk show debunked the rumors on Twitter.

“Nobody loves the boys more than us … but this story just isn’t true,” the tweet began. “What is true is we’ve got an absolutely brilliant 2 hour finale planned to celebrate 8 years of #LateLateShow at 10pm on April 27th.”

On Thursday, April 13, The Daily Mail reported that One Direction — yes, the band that catapulted Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne to fame — is rumored to reunite on CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden. The episode, which is host James Corden’s last, is scheduled to air on April 27.

According to the outlet, the speculation first surfaced on celebrity gossip account DeuxMoi, who claimed that the band would be guests on the talk show. However, it’s important to note that these rumors are *just* rumors for now, and that neither James Corden nor the former bandmates have confirmed their reunion.

One Direction appeared on the Late Late Show in May 2015, marking their first television interview since Zayn left the band in March of that year. In January 2016, the four remaining members of the boy band went on an indefinite hiatus and ultimately went their separate ways. The band has never had a full reunion, but there have been rumblings over the past year.

During an appearance on the Spout podcast in June 2022, Harry seemed open to the idea of getting the band back together. “I don’t know, I think the thought of it is really nice,” he said. “I’d love for there to be a time where it felt like something we all wanted to do.”
