One Direction Celebrates 8-Year Anniversary of the Band's Creation

Insert all the crying emojis.

Grab a tissue, One Direction fans, because it's about to get real sentimental in here. On Monday, former 1D group member Louis Tomlinson took to Twitter to remind all of us about a very important anniversary in the 1D fandom: the day that the group was officially created back in 2010.

"#8YearsOfOneDirection Where has the time gone!?" Louis wrote in the first of two commemorative tweets. "Thank you so much to every single person who’s ever supported us. Big love!" He quickly followed it up with a cheekier tweet, writing, "And remember if it’s by one direction and it’s a banger I probably wrote on it #8YearofOneDirection."

Liam Payne also weighed in on the monumental anniversary, tweeting, "What an incredible 8 years it’s been with my brothers! Thank you to all the fans that are still supporting and following our journeys. Love LP."

It's wild to think that it's been eight years since One Direction was officially created on The X-Factor, if only because it feels like so much has happened in that short time period. In less than a decade, 1D became one of the most wildly successful pop groups of the day, released five studio albums, and went on numerous world tours. Then, beginning with Zayn Malik's exit, the group eventually split off and moved onto their own successful solo careers.

Now, some of the men of One Direction are fathers (specifically, Louis and Liam), one has just finished his first solo world tour (that'll be Harry Styles), one is headed back to The X-Factor to be a judge (Louis again), and all of them have released their own solo albums and singles. A lot can happen in eight years.

Of course, 1D fans on Twitter were very not OK with this reminder that it's been eight years since 1D arrived on the planet. Amidst all of the sad face memes, fans wrote sweet messages to celebrate the special moment. "And we will continue to support! We’re the greatest team the world has ever seen!!!" while another fan chimed in with, "COMEBACK COMEBACK COMEBACK" repeated multiple times.

And there was one tweet that low-key encapsulated all the reactions to #8YearsOfOneDirection: "Today, always and forever."
