"One Day at a Time" Is Back for Season 4 Following Netflix Cancellation

One Day at a Time season 4 is finally here, and it kicked things off with a bang burn.

Fans of ODAAT were bummed last year when Netflix, its original home, canceled the series after three seasons. Technically a reboot, this new iteration of the sitcom centered on three generations of a Cuban-American family living together. It was widely praised for its portrayal of a Latinx family, along with tackling issues such as mental health and queer sexuality. Soon after Netflix's cancellation, CBS's Pop saved One Day at a Time and announced that the Alvarez family would return for a fourth season.

One Day at a Time season 4 premiered on Tuesday (March 24), with an episode about the census and Penelope (Justina Machado) coming to terms with wanting to date again. But just a few seconds into the premiere, ODAAT had fans applauding and laughing.

In the episode, Elena (Isabella Gomez), Syd (Sheridan Pierce), Dr. Berkowitz (Stephen Tobolowsky), and Alex (Marcel Ruiz) are sitting in the living room when Penelope comes in to ask, "Did you decide what we're watching for movie night?"

Alex responds, "No, it's like there's nothing good on Netflix anymore."

As one fan wrote on Twitter, "Literally 15 seconds in and it’s already amazing lmao." Another fan tweeted, "ODAAT throwing shade at Netflix is just too good!" Even the official One Day at a Time Twitter account got in on the fun, sharing a GIF of Alex landing the burn and the caption "Tea, papito."

And with the burn out of the way, One Day at a Time could move on to the sincere, heartwarming storylines that have resonated with its viewers. We can't wait to see what else is in store for the Alvarez family in this new season.
