When it comes to backpacking, saving weight is the priority for anything that’s going to sit on your shoulders for miles of walking. That’s why ultralight backpacking tents are often more expensive than car camping tents, despite their less rugged construction. Fortunately, Marmot makes a line of tents that are modestly priced, and the Superalloy Tent is a durable, ultralight tent that’s on sale for $300.

Typically $429, Marmot’s tent is 30% off right now at Backcountry, which has a great selection of tents. It’s backed by a 4.5-star rating from Backcountry and Marmot shoppers. It’s available in a vibrant Green Glow colorway, and the three-season tent is designed to fit two people.

The tent packs down to just over 2 pounds, making it a great lightweight option for backpacking or even bikepacking. Two vestibules on the sides of the tent create space to stash your gear, leaving more room on the inside. The seam-taped rain fly helps keep you dry in inclement weather.

The rain fly also has UV protection, keeping you comfortable in both wet weather and on bright cloudless days. There are pockets in the tent to easily stash personal items, and the semi-freestanding design is roomy enough to stretch out without feeling cramped. While most two-person tents are more comfortable for one, the two doors on this tent make it easier to get in and out from either side if you’re sharing.

The tent performed well for backpacking excursions, according to shoppers who appreciated details like the two doors and pockets. One called it the “perfect backpacking tent,” adding “The color of it is fun. Double door which is super handy!” Another wrote, “Despite its light weight the Superalloy has tall walls, two doors, a large amount of headroom, vestibule, and a lot of internal pockets that make the tent seem much larger.”

Of course, the comfort of a tent when set up is only one part of the equation. It has to also be easy to put up and take down, and it needs to pack small. One shopper wrote, “I wasn't sure whether I would notice a difference in this tent versus other backpacking tents I've had (4 to 5 pounds range). It was a huge difference. What I didn't expect was how much smaller it would pack down. I like to pack my tent body and fly in a compression sack and it packs up a little bigger than a Nalgene.”

Multiple other shoppers mentioned the ease of packing the tent up and its compact size, with one writing that it “Packs up super easily and great quality for how lightweight it is,” and another writing “It is incredible how small this tent packs up.”

When carrying all of your gear on your back over tricky trails and switchbacks, every ounce counts, which is why Marmot’s sub-3-pound tent is a great option for any adventure. While it cuts down on weight, it doesn’t cut down on comfort, thanks to the two-door entry and gear storage features. For $129 off, it’s a great option for spring and summer adventures.
