Omid Scobie Has a New Book Coming Out About the Royal Family

When royal reporter Omid Scobie published his first book, Finding Freedom, he sat down with T&C to talk about his future writing plans. “Whatever I write next, and I have a couple of things going right now, will be more low-key,” he told journalist Kate Storey. “Should we say…not much to do with royals.” But as it turns out, he can't get away from the subject that has brought him incredible popularity (and inspired a bit of outrage as well).

Today, Scobie announced ] he's working on another book about the British royal family. Titled Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy’s Fight for Survival, it promises to "[pull] back the curtain on an institution in turmoil—exposing the chaos, family dysfunction, distrust and draconian practices threatening its very future."

While Scobie's first book was written in collaboration with another royals writer, Carolyn Durand, Endgame is a solo project, and set to come out next August from Harper Collins. Based on a description released by the publisher today, it will focus on the aftermath of Queen Elizabeth's death and the early days of King Charles's reign, offering what sounds like a wider lens on the Windsors than his previous Sussex-focused work.

"On September 8, 2022, the world stood still as news broke of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing," reads a summary of the book, in part. "Her death dismantled the protective shield around the world’s most famous family and saw a long-simmering crisis of confidence in the British monarchy begin to resurface."
