Jordan Chiles has always loved to smile. The 22-year-old Olympic silver medalist and longtime member of the US Women's National Gymnastics Team says her habit of showing off her teeth is "something that has been with me since I was younger," and with all the time she's spending in the spotlight these days, it make sense that, along with making the decision to perfect her smile, she's recently partnered with Invisalign.

"I wanted to do this for myself," she tells Women's Health. "I had traditional braces when I was younger, but recently I was like, 'There's something missing.'”

Chiles was nearly three months into her Invisalign treatment at the time of the interview, and she's been a big fan of the process because of the convenience. "It’s the easiest thing for me to do because I'm in practices all the time," she says. "If I need to contact my doctor, I can do that. I lose a tray, they can replace it. It's really cool being able to have something that easy that fits into my schedule and how busy it is."

Ahead, read more about Chiles' partnership with Invisalign, what her beauty routine looks like on competition days, and more.

Women's Health: What impact do you think your smile has on your overall confidence level?

Jordan Chiles: People always ask me, “Why are you always smiling?” It's like, well, it's my personality. It's who I am. I was just a bubbly little girl, and sometimes people would ask me if I was okay if I didn't smile. Knowing that smiling is such like a huge part of my life and who I am, I had to embrace it because I realized people really like how I smile.

WH: Has seeing the changes in your smile made you feel more confident about being in the public eye and on camera?

JC: A hundred percent. What I didn't know is that I had a peg lateral, which is a baby tooth that I had to get capped the first time I had braces so that my teeth could shift. But since my peg lateral didn't grow fully, everything was shifted to my right, which is your left on camera. [With my Invisalign treatment] everything is shifting back, more to the center of my nose, and I can already see a difference. I feel more confident in the public eye, since that's something that we always do. Taking photos, doing videos—our sport is always [about] smiling and being with fans, so I feel more confident knowing that I can smile with my teeth more.

WH: What does your beauty routine look like on days that you compete?

JC: I'll wake up, look at myself in the mirror, and give myself a little pep talk before I have to get ready because we normally don't compete until nighttime. Then I start with the Charlotte Tilbury Invisible Flawless UV Primer, which is really, really good. I do recommend. And then I go in with the Makeup By Mario Master Hold Brow Gel, depending on how I want my eyebrows to look that day, followed by the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz Ultra-Slim Precision Brow Pencil—the thin one, not the thick one. And then I contour and conceal with the Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin Awakening Concealer. And then, recently, I actually just got the One/Size On 'Til Dawn Mattifying Waterproof Setting Spray, which I really enjoy for sure.

WH: You did your own hair and makeup the last time you competed in the Olympics. How would you describe your makeup style when you compete?

JC: It honestly depends on [what my leotard looks like]. If the leo is already blinging and has all the sparkles and colors and all that stuff, then I’ll try to do a very natural look using brown shadow on my eyes, or I'll just make my eyeshadow look very glossy. If it's a normal leo that isn’t too glam, then I’ll add glam to my eyes by using jewels or different eyeliners, which is really cool. Same with the hair. It just depends on the leo.

WH: How do you typically get "unready" after a meet?

JC: When I get to my hotel, my teammates and I will normally have a pizza party, depending on where we're at, and then it’s time to go to bed. I normally take my hair down first, because when my hair is tied up tight, I’m just itching to get it out. Then, I remove my makeup with a Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelette, and then I use two different cleansers: the Clinique Exfoliating Scrub and the Extra Gentle Cleansing Foam. After that, I'll go in with a toner followed by Charlotte's Magic Serum with Vitamin C from Charlotte Tilbury. I’ll end my routine by moisturizing with the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid and popping my Invisalign trays back in before I go to sleep.

WH: You said earlier that you like to give yourself pep talks when you start your day—what do those pep talks usually sound like?

JC: Normally I'll be looking in the mirror half awake sometimes, and I'll just be like, “Okay, you got this. Today's meet day. Let's go out there. Do what you gotta do, enjoy every moment that you had and just leave everything on the floor.” My dad's favorite motto—something he's told me ever since I was little— is “Do your best and forget the rest.” Because if I do my best, I can't control what happens after that. So it's really just giving myself that confidence. I’ll also start listening to music, so then my pep talks kind of turn into lyrics.
