Olivia Wilde directed the upcoming film, 'Don't Worry Darling,' starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh.

Olivia Wilde is revealing why she had to fire Shia LaBeouf from her upcoming film, Don't Worry Darling.

The Transformers star originally landed the role of Jack in Wilde's directorial film, only to eventually be replaced by pop singing sensation, Harry Styles

In a new interview with Variety, Wilde, 38, opened up about her reason for letting LaBeouf go, despite describing herself as "such an admirer of his work."

"He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I don’t personally believe that is conducive to the best performances," she told the publication.

"I believe that creating a safe, trusting environment is the best way to get people to do their best work," she continued, adding that she was focused on protecting the rest of the cast, which includes Florence Pugh, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan and more.

"Ultimately, my responsibility is to the production and to the cast to protect them. That was my job," she added.

A few months after being fired from Don't Worry Darling, LaBeouf's ex-girlfriend, FKA Twigs, sued him for sexual battery in a lawsuit that is headed for trial in April 2023, according to the outlet. A month later, the Holes actor split from his agency, CAA, and entered an inpatient facility.

"A lot came to light after this happened that really troubled me, in terms of his behavior," Wilde said in the interview, seemingly referring to the lawsuit against LaBeouf. "I find myself just really wishing him health and evolution because I believe in restorative justice."

"But our film, what we really needed was an energy that was incredibly supportive," she continued. "Particularly with a movie like this, I knew that I was going to be asking Florence to be in very vulnerable situations and my priority was making her feel safe and making her feel supported."

She explained that the COVID-19 pandemic freed up Styles' schedule, allowing him to be cast in the role. “We found the perfect Jack, and luckily, it’s kind of magical that it ended up being our first choice,” she said.

Don't Worry Darling hits theaters on Friday, Sept. 23.
