Olivia Rodrigo made a fan's night by accepting a major request.

In a video captured by Variety from the premiere of the singer's "Vampire" music video—supporting the lead single off of her sophomore album, Guts, which is set to drop on Sept. 8—a teenage fan decided to take a risk and do a prom proposal—popularly referred to as a promposal—asking, "Will you go to prom with me?" Rodrigo was thrilled by the invitation, exclaiming, "Oh my god! I've always wanted to go to prom."

She then asked the boy for his number so they could coordinate logistics for her to be his date, leaving the crowd cheering over the sweet interaction.

The song, co-written with her creative partner Dan Nigro, addresses a romance gone awry with someone who used her for fame.

In a press statement, the 20-year-old explained, "I was upset about a certain situation and went to the studio alone and sat down at the grand piano, and the chords and melody and lyrics just poured out of me — almost like an out-of-body experience. It's a song about feeling confused and hurt, and at first I thought it was meant to be a piano ballad. But when Dan and I started working on it, we juxtaposed the lyrics with these big drums and crazy tempo changes. So now it's like a heartbreak song you can dance to."

Fans have speculated that the song is about her ex Zack Bia, a DJ who is seven years her senior. The couple began dating in 2022, calling it quits in August after six months together. The timing matches with Rodrigo's reference in the song: "Six months of torture you sold as some forbidden paradise/I loved you truly/You gotta laugh at the stupidity."
