Olivia Rodrigo just achieved the impossible. She turned the Department of Motor Vehicles into one of the coolest concert venues.

For the latest installment of NPR’s “Tiny Desk” series, the singer-songwriter took over a DMV in Glendale, California to perform stripped-down versions of four of her biggest hits: “good 4 u,” “traitor,” “drivers license,” and finally, “deja vu.”

Wearing a purple fuzzy sweater, a black-and-white checkered slip skirt, and red plaid platform loafers, Olivia started off the set with a softer, acoustic rendition of “good 4 u” while her bandmates strummed along behind her.

“Welcome to my NPR ‘Tiny Desk,’” she said after the song. “I’m so honored to be here, I watch these all the time. They’re so cool.”

Olivia then noted that the DMV had some “interesting vibes.” Her next tune was “traitor,” which she called her “favorite song on the album.” She added: “It changes all the time, but currently this one is my favorite.”

After performing the location-apt track “drivers license,” she closed out her mini-concert with “deja vu.”

“It’s sort of just about my frustration about how relationships are sort of recycled,” Olivia said about the song.

The toned-down performance comes at the tail end of a year that has been anything but toned-down for Olivia. After receiving seven Grammy nominations and absolutely dominating this year’s Spotify charts, she announced she’s hitting the road and going on tour in 2022.
